Texting has become a large part of culture, becoming more and more popular with people of all ages. Combining texting and dating is something that a lot of people do not have experience with, but there is an etiquette to it that needs to be paid attention to. To increase success when dating, you will want to learn how to utilize text messaging to express what you want to communicate accurately, and how to use text messaging respectfully for dating purposes.

Things To Text The Person You Are Dating

There are plenty of things that you can text the person you are dating to leave a lasting impression. One of the easiest ways to utilize text messages for dating purposes successfully is to send out the occasional text message just to express appreciation. One of the five love languages is words of affirmation, and a simple "I love you" or " you are great" can have a hugely positive impact on someone's day. That positive impact on someone's day cannot only mean a lot, but can help your dating partner know that they are on your mind.

Also, text messages are a great way to follow up on a previous conversation or let them know that you have thought about the conversation more and have something additional to say about it. By referencing the topic you have discussed, you are reinforcing that discussions with the date were meaningful. This can also be a great way to suggest going out on another date, or bring up a date idea, in specific circumstances.

Texting is also a great way to make plans with your date. Connecting with someone via phone is a little bit more difficult to do, as both people need to be available at the same time. Texting allows people to respond in multiple environments and can be a prime way to communicate with someone about possible places and times to meet up. On the day of the get-together, texts can also be used to confirm things and flush out any details that still need to be worked out.

Similar to the "just because" messages, texting can be used to let a person know that you are looking forward to seeing them again. People love to know that they are being thought about and that they are having positive impacts on other people's lives. Another type of message you can send is a "thank you" message.

Things Not To Text The Person You Are Dating

One thing to avoid is exceptionally long texts. Not only will these take an extremely long time to read, but typing things out on a cell phone keyboard can be a tedious task and one that most people do not look forward to.

You will also want to keep texts as positive as you can and take care to read your texts to see if the tone could be taken in a manner inconsistent with what you intend.

Repetitive questions are also something that should be avoided through text messaging. Make sure to mix your questions with other statements and information, so the conversation does not come off as forced dialogue or an interrogation.

IMPORTANT: Do not send pictures that are extremely sexual in nature without asking for, and getting, consent first. Unwanted sexual messages are highly frustrating to many people and a turnoff for many as well. Also, opening this type of text in the wrong place can lead to an embarrassing moment if the message is not expected and someone else sees it.
